The vestiges of the Roman city of Thibilis are among the most important archaeological sites in the province. The site stretches over a plain 700 m long and 350 m wide, representing a total area of about 25 hectares. It includes the remains of an entire Roman city. Visitors can admire the walls, columns and palaces of the city, stroll through its wide squares and stone-paved roads, stand on the ruins of its temples and relive a time more than two thousand years ago. This route also includes the Ghar El-Djemâa cave, which is aimed at lovers of nature exploration and adventure tourism. Inhabited since the dawn of history, it was distinguished in Roman times by the worship of one of the many Roman gods. Indeed, the place was a place of pilgrimage for the inhabitants of Thibilis, in the spring of each year, to offer sacrifices and wishes. |
