Man has settled in the Guelma region since the dawn of history, as evidenced by numerous archaeolog ical sites, inscriptions and funerary monuments discovered in the region. There are 25 prehistoric cemetery sites (dawn of history) in Guelma, attesting to the presence of primitive peoples in this region, the most important of which is the megalithic necropolis of Roknia, which is the largest, the most oldest in North Africa and the most famous in the east of the country, where there are three (03) thousand funerary monuments of dolmens and 300 caves (tombs in rocky caves). In Guelma, There is also the best site in all of eastern Algeria, where prehistoric art presents its richness. It is a rock art site, represented by a high rock engraved with pastoral scenes, called Khanguet Lahdjar in Sellaoua Announa, where there are line engravings and dotted engravings (165 representations), representing different people and animals. This rock art site is confirmed as an excavated place of memory, testifying that the region attracted large pastoral communities in prehistoric times. |
